Diamond in the rough

My Pastor and his wife went on a long three week vacation. While they were on vacation she found rocks, not just any rocks, Agate Rocks. (let me tell you a secret… she LOVES rocks!) In case you don’t know, Agate rock is:
is a rock consisting primarily of cryptocrystalline silica, chiefly chalcedony, alternating with microgranular quartz. They came back yesterday (Sunday) and as she is our Sunday school teacher she informed us (Sunday School group) how they went to this one place and she just melted (Rock terms being used here folks). She told us that there were some rocks that had cracks in them. Some of these cracks were small and some were pretty large. When she looked in these cracks, she said she was reminded of us. (Ummm… UH OH? lol) Do you want to know what she saw? —keep reading

She saw something… Beautiful. Amazing. Extraordinary. Stunning. Enlightening. DAZZLING! Some agate rocks are different in color. Some are lilac-gray or rose colored. They are precious and some are more valuable than others.

I could go on and on, but I think I left you in suspense long enough, don’t you agree? lol Inside these cracks she saw a form of quartz almost diamond like.

What comes to my mind is “diamond in the rough”. Have you heard the saying “A diamond in the rough”? In case you don’t know what it means… it means someone or something with potential or talent but lacking training or polish. This phrase refers to the fact that diamonds found in nature are rough and uneven.

You see, our Pastor’s wife said that she thought of each and every one of us while they were on this vacation. She said that each rock reminded her of us. Each of us are different colors (aurora’s); different personalities, etc.

Which brings me to why I’m writing this: See, this story she shared with us made me think of all I went through as an abuse victim and what others have and are going through both as abuse victims and as ones having addictions and working through them all.

You see, we all have cracks in us, but what we don’t realize is that the help of GOD, we are healing with his power, his love and it’s making us into these diamonds, these agate rocks!

When you need strength please see Isaiah 41:10… “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
And Jeremiah 30:17.. “But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds’, declares the LORD”

A verse in 1 Samuel really hits home as humans we look with our eyes upon others. 1 Samuel 16: 7 says: “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.”

This is so true for us mere humans. We look on the outside without looking in the cracks, without looking inside the mind, or giving others a chance or realizing what their life is/was and how it made them/us today.

So remember that everyone is a diamond in the rough. Everyone needs to be seen not with our eyes but with our hearts. Can you do that? I know I am still trying!

So to wrap it up, you can say this short prayer for healing that you can use: Father, help me to keep my focus on you when the pain and hurt are overwhelming. Help me to be faithful and to see the good and blessings that surround me. Please strengthen my mind, heart, and body and heal me today. May the Holy Spirit guide me in peace and comfort today. Amen.”

Remember God loves you and so do I.
