Thanksgiving brings thankfulness

When the holidays come around, are you alone? Do you have a place to go to celebrate all that you are thankful for?

When my 1st husband and I were married, we held all the holidays alone just us (with our kids when they came). He said he wanted to be alone with me. We always ended up fighting as he always ended up drunk and mean.

Holidays, back then, meant being alone with him and KNOWING I’d get a beating no matter what. It took me 13 1/2 years to finally get the courage to leave him, and take our children with me.

Then as a single parent, we had no place to go to celebrate. So, the kids and I did our best. We made hand and feet turkeys out of paper and hung them up in the house. We played games and we ate turkey drumsticks and some stuffing as I didn’t know how to cook back then.

Here I am now 14 1/2 years married to a wonderful man with a large family and for the last 2 years, we have held the dinners at our new LARGE place. It’s been great and wonderful. Especially now that I’m a grandparent and get to enjoy things like these with my grandchildren.

But not everyone is as fortunate as I have been. I just wish I could find those that are alone and bring them to my house, once a month, not just on holidays, but at the holidays the most. That seems to be the loneliest time, I found.

If you can help a neighbor, a stranger, or a friend who is alone, please do so. The holidays are really the loneliest times for people.

I want you to find something you are thankful for, or thankful you have and try to pass on a little happiness to others who may need that simple pleasure of a laugh, a hug, a hot meal.

I’m very thankful for my husband #2 (and last!) my 3 wonderful children and the 5 and 1/2 grandchildren they have given us. I am thankful I have a job that pays my bills, but most importantly, I’m thankful I can help one person at a time.

What are you thankful for? Are you able to bring a smile to someone’s face? A hot meal? maybe even make a new friend?

Much Love,
